In my latest role as a Procurement Officer at BioMADE, a bioindustrial Manufacturing Innovation Institute sponsored by the Department of Defense (DoD), I provide expert purchasing support. My responsibilities include sourcing suppliers, negotiating contracts, managing vendor relationships, and overseeing the entire procurement process while ensuring compliance with federal and agency requirements.
I manage various types of procurement agreements, from non-disclosure agreements to complex manufacturing and construction contracts. My role involves developing innovative and cost-effective procurement strategies, negotiating favorable terms with reliable suppliers and vendors, and reviewing existing contracts to ensure feasibility and compliance.
Building and maintaining long-term relationships with vendors and suppliers is crucial to my role. I conduct risk assessments for potential contracts and agreements, monitor vendor performance, and ensure quality and compliance. I also ensure that all procurement actions comply with federal regulations, specifically 2 CFR 200 Uniform Guidance, and prepare procurement reports, support audit responses, and identify areas for improvement.
Managing the procurement budget and promoting cost-saving practices is essential. I work closely with other departments, such as finance and program teams, to ensure smooth procurement processes and resolve any contractual issues. To stay effective in my role, I continuously update myself on regulations, requirements, and practices impacting research administration and participate in professional development opportunities.
Lastly, I support the development and implementation of operational plans, standard operating procedures, and processes related to contract management. I maintain electronic records of all relevant contractual documents and support agreement tracking, issuance, award monitoring, and closeouts.
